Green Mountain Recreation Center

Lakewood, Colorado

Owner/Developer: City of Lakewood

Project Architect: Rick Bender

Contractor: Rhodes Construction

Area: 6,800 Sq. Ft.

Completion: June 1998

The Green Mountain Recreational Center was a remodel of an existing facility which was built in 1972. The program called for; a new building entry, a lobby that could be a meeting place for teens, a video game room, an enlarged area for administrative offices, an exercise room, a machine room for cardiovascular exercise, a weight room, and four racquetball courts. Since the entry was a key component of the facility, we felt that it needed to be inviting as well as functional. The character of the entry is also reflected in the wrap around canopy that extends tot he tennis courts and the exterior pool Deck.

Westwood College

Sheridan, Colorado

Owner/Developer: Westwood College

Architect: Rick Bender *

Contractor: W. M. Brown Construction

Area: 12,000 Sq. Ft.

Completion: January 1998

The Westwood College of Technology was outgrowing the current adjacent facility and required additional space for administration and classrooms. This building exceeded their needs in both cases. There are eight new classrooms that seat 35 people each and four rooms can be combined into two larger meeting rooms. The cafeteria on the lower level has side doors to allow students to sit on the out door terrace. The building is constructed of pre cast concrete panels with inlaid brick. With this construction technique we were able to shorten construction time to four and half months
